Test Way walk Friday 20th May & Saturday 21st May for The Rose Road Association

Dear All

Many of you will recall that Peter Harding, local businessman and I undertook the 123 Decathlon Challenge in 2012 raising a net £90,000 for 3 very worthwhile local charities including The Rose Road Association.

10 years on, as my final challenge before I retire in June, Peter and I have agreed to walk the full length of the Test Way (44 miles) to celebrate supporting Rose Road for 20 years and to raise much needed funds in their 70th year of providing support to families with children and young adults with multiple and profound disabilities. We’re walking 70km, so 1km for each year Rose Road has been supporting local children.

There will be an option to join us for a full day if you are a seasoned walker or join either day for the second half (ish) of the walk, or any combination of walks you would like.

Our aim is to raise a more modest but much needed £7,000 for Rose Road (www.roseroad.org.uk) .

All welcome including family and friends but you should be self supporting as Peter and I will need to keep our own pace to get through each day!

We plan on setting off each day promptly at 9am from Inkpen Beacon (Hill) on Friday and Mayfly PH on Saturday.

Those wishing to do a shorter walk will be able to join either day at 2pm and walk 10.5 miles from St Mary Bourne to Mayfly PH (Westdown) on Friday 20th or 9 miles from Romsey to Eling Wharf on Saturday 21st. Maybe you can organise a corporate team on the afternoon of Friday 20th?

Rose Road are also organising an accessible walk in Romsey Memorial park for families to take part in on the Saturday. Details are on the register link below.

Rose Road have now set up the fundraising page with the initial details and Peter and I welcome donations in due course. If you want to set up a team to join us please follow the instructions below or contact Beth or Nicky at Rose Road for help on bethrogers@roseroad.org.uk 02380721248, nicolaburton@roseroad.org.uk 02380721202.

To register to join us for part of the walk, or to find out about or join the accessible walk in Romsey

If you would also like to fundraise you can set up your own justgiving page as part of the event

https://www.justgiving.com/team/walk70-for-roseroad.  There is a button on this page called ‘Join the Team’. Being part of a team means you get your own fundraising page (just like mine) to ask their contacts to donate towards their walking efforts. All donations made to team members’ pages go towards a joint total fundraising goal for the Event. However, the individual tallies displayed then also allow for a bit of friendly fundraising competition! Rose Road will be able to organise sponsorship forms on request.

Any individual taking part in the walk and donating £20 will be provided with a free branded T shirt sponsored by Rasanco, Azets & Questmap. These can be ordered on the link above under ‘To register’

Peter and I look forward to seeing you during one of the 2 days and at the very least for a well-earned drink at the pub around 6pm back in the Anchor at Eling Wharf when we complete the walk!

With very best wishes,

Bruce Elkins & Peter Harding
